This article is a guide to help claim NDIS Patients when using Nookal. Nookal users are welcome to utilise their own system when it comes to billing NDIS Patients. We assume that you are already familiar with Nookal’s billing processes when reading this advice.
The first step is to know if a NDIS Patient is Self-Managed, Plan-Managed or NDIA/Agency-managed. This information will be critical when it comes to the payment process as each type of NDIS Patient is paid by a different method.
Self-Managed Patients
Self-managed Patients control their own NDIS budgets. A self-managed Patient will pay their provider directly then either claim directly from the NDIA pre or post-treatment. Give Patient the invoices with the appropriate NDIS item code and reference number for the NDIS claiming process.
If your clinic does not support NDIA/Agency-Managed Patients:
- Add NDIS as a Contact in Nookal, setting them up as a Payer.
- Enable Patient Funding to manage the Patient's NDIS budget.
- Set up the Patient's Case so that it uses Budgets, with NDIS as the Payer.
- Add the Patient's NDIS Reference Number to the Case, under the NDIS Payer section.
- Generate the invoice, and change the Addressee from Third Party to Patient so that the Patient can pay for their treatment.
- Learn to Track and Manage the Patient's Budget.
If your clinic supports both Self-Managed and Agency-Managed Patients:
- Add the Self-Managed Patient as a Contact in Nookal, setting them as a Payer.
- Enable the NDIS Integration to manage the Patient's NDIS budget.
- Set up the Patient's Case so that it uses Budgets, with the newly created Contact (as created in Step 1) as the Payer.
- Add the Patient's NDIS Reference Number to the Case, under the Payer section.
- Invoice them directly.
- Learn to Track and Manage the Patient's Budget.
Plan-Managed Patients
To receive payment for services or supports for Patients who are plan-managed, providers are required to send invoices to the Patient's Plan Manager who will manage the payment request process and pay the provider.
If your clinic does not support NDIA/Agency-Managed Patients:
- Add the Patient’s Plan manager as a Contact in Nookal, setting them as Payer.
- Enable Patient Funding to manage the Patient's NDIS budget.
- Set up the Patient's Case so that it uses Budgets, with the Plan Manager as the Payer.
- Add the Patient's NDIS Reference Number to the Case, under the Payer section.
- Email the invoice directly to the Contact.
- Learn to Track and Manage the Patient's Budget.
If your clinic supports both Plan-Managed and Agency-Managed Patients:
- Add the Patient’s Plan manager as a Contact in Nookal, setting them as Payer.
- Enable the NDIS Integration to manage the Patient's NDIS budget.
NDIA/Agency-Managed Patients
To receive payment for services or supports for Patients who are NDIA-managed, providers are required to submit a Payment Request electronically through NDIS portal.
To manage an NDIA-managed Patient in Nookal, we recommend using the NDIS Integration.
For detailed steps on making payment requests, please refer to the guides on the NDIS website.
