Due to new regulations in Australia, all SMS Sender IDs (also known as alpha tags – the custom name
or brand identifier that displays in the "From" field of an SMS message instead of a random mobile
number) must now be registered.
To ensure your SMS messages continue to show your business name, we require some details from
you to help you complete the registration. Please note that if this information is not provided your
messages may be sent from an “Unverified” sender instead of your business name after 30th June
2026.
The ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) is the government organisation
responsible for regulating SMS and phone communications in Australia to keep them safe and
trustworthy. As your messaging provider, we can assist with part of this registration process on your
behalf, but we do require some information from your business to proceed.

Criteria for Sender IDs
Sender IDs must meet specific criteria before they can be registered.
A sender ID must:

- Be at least 2 and no more than 11 characters long
- Not consist only of numbers
- Not contain a space or underscore at the beginning or end of the sender ID
- Not contain the word ‘Unverified’
- Not contain a word or words that are offensive, deceptive or misleading, using the commonly understood definitions of those terms
- Not solely consist of a restricted word or words.
Note: Sender IDs are not case sensitive (for example, 'ABC’ is considered the same as ‘abc’).
Important Next Step
Once we submit the registration, the authorised representative will receive an email from ACMA requesting approval of the application via ACMA Assist. This approval is required to complete the registration.
To avoid delays, we recommend the authorised representative sets up access to ACMA Assist and myID in advance.
